CEF has a plan where you can take VBS on the road, to the kids. It's called 5-Day Club®. We go to where the children are (parks, apartments, neighborhoods, community centers) with high energy games, relationship building activities and a clear presentation of the Gospel. Generally, a church hosts three 5-Day Clubs for at least one week (sometimes more) during the summer.
On the fifth day you can INVITE THE FAMILIES OF YOUR COMMUNITY to a Friday night rally at your church. Because an entire week has been spent on building relationships, we see many families attend the rally and churches have the opportunity to continue to develop those relationships and establish an on-going outreach into the community. Many churches have seen these families come to know Christ and become a regular part of their church family.
On of the most exciting aspects of the 5-Day Club is that it is taught by the teenagers in your church. CEF of Missouri has a two-week training school for teenagers called Christian Youth In Action. Teens are trained to teach a Bible lesson, memory verse, songs and counsel children for salvation. The first week is intensive training and the second week the teens practice what they have learned by teaching 5-Day Clubs in Hannibal, Missouri. It is training they will use for the remainder of their lives, not just in children's ministry but in sharing their faith with anyone.
When the teens come home from training school they are ready to be your teachers for the community 5-Day Clubs. With this plan, not only will your church have an impact on your community with the Gospel, but you will be investing in the lives and training of young Christian leaders. Also, teens can raise support and be paid for their ministry activities during the summer. They are missionaries to your community.
CEF also offers short-term missions trips to urban areas and overseas. See summermissions.com.
